During Old Testament days the Israelis asked God for a King so they could be like other nations. This request made through Samuel (1 Samuel 8) came many years after God had repeatedly provided for their every need before and after entering the Promised Land. God warned the people through Samuel as to what would happen if a king ruled over them.

1/13/09 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matt 24:24)

Do triple 24s get your attention? Matthew 24:24 says that in the last days that even the very elect will be deceived if that were possible. I can’t identify the elect, the non-elect and all those in between, but I think certainly a majority of people is deceived in these days. Deception allows our enemies to get a foothold.

"A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring." (Proverbs 25:26)

According to the Scripture above, the righteous man should not give way to the wicked. That is appropriate instruction in our day especially as we consider two pressing problems in our culture, the invasion of illegals and the growing promotion of homosexuality as being normal.

A recent Zogby poll revealed that the U.S. Congress has an approval rate of only 11 percent. The behavior of Harry Reid, Majority Leader of the Senate, and 40 other Democrat senators earlier this month is an excellent example as to why they have such a low approval rate.

Joseph said to the people, "Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can plant the ground. But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children." (Genesis 47:23-24, NIV)


The mention of slavery in America usually focuses one’s attention to the fact that people in Africa were sold(by other blacks) to white people in America. This type slavery in America has probably blinded us to the fact that other types of slavery exist. The practice of owning slaves as property is one definition of slavery. Another definition is a condition of being subject to a specific influence or subjection to some authority, such as a government.

Republicans in Washington, D.C. got what they deserved when they lost control of Congress in the November elections. It’s just a shame that the Democrats as well didn’t get what they deserve. We have only two political parties solidly entrenched and they have similar ideas about how to control your life, confiscate more than 40 percent of your money to redistribute to others, and accelerate our republic toward a more socialistic and immoral country. It is impossible to throw them all out at once. I like what Mark Twain said about congressmen, “Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.”

Below is a letter written to the editor of the Monroe Watchman in Union, WV. People who write anonymous letters, who also claim to be Christian, and then proceed to say things contrary to Christian beliefs need to be answered. For too long we Christians have shrugged our shoulders and tried to ignore such people. Anonymous or otherwise they need to be challenged because others are apt to believe their warped ideas.

Polls show that a vast majority of Americans know we have a serious problem with illegal aliens, particularly those who cross over our border with Mexico. I was very disturbed during the last presidential election campaign that both candidates completely ignored talking about this problem. Instead, US citizens were bombarded with information that focused on which candidate had the weaker military record dating back 30 years ago.
